Sermon Description

Joshua Generation Series 11

Joshua 6:6-10

Introduction

As we move through the book of Joshua, do you have a sense of spiritual movement in your life? As you read scripture, are you growing? If not, then stop right now and cry to God for definite experiences in God. They crossed from Egypt into the wilderness for UNBELIEF and lived in that for close to 40 years. Unknown to them the Canaanites -occupants of their inheritance were already in terror because of them! They came to Shittim (Josh 3:1) and next to Jordan and then “it came to pass when all the people were clean pass over Jordan” (Josh 4:1). These were definite mile posts. As a Christian, where are you? Please stop and be honest! Where are you? Are you moving?

How was it, that the river Jordan, at flood time suddenly stopped for the Jews to cross over? How? How was it, that at another critical decision-making point, Jesus suddenly appeared for precise instruction of battle plans? Why is our case different in decision making on marriage, business, evangelism, missionary decision, giving, serving the Lord, etc…? Let us stay a while in Joshua 6 and learn and act on “thus saith the Lord”

JOSHUA WAS COVENANT-MINDED, SO MUST WE! – JOSHUA 6:6-10.

The first blood covenant that was made where human blood was shed was with Abraham (Genesis 17:1).  This covenant introduced the blood-backed promise to the earth. Joshua understood this pact. That God who asked them to stop and “cut a covenant” with Him as covenant partner will never let them down. The problem with us is that our word is not our bond. We do not keep our promises!! Will you repent toward God? Notice that the Ark of the COVENANT (Josh 6:6-7) is mentioned 3 times.

Native people practiced a covenant similar to David and Jonathan’s covenant (1 Sam. 18:1-3). They would enter into covenant with one another and cut themselves as a sign of the covenant. That covenant scar would cause others to be cautious because they did not know the power of that person’s covenant partner. The power of our covenant Partner and our relationship with Him is a principle that should be taught to every born-again person the moment he or she gets saved. Your name was changed when you received Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. You were named after your heavenly Father (Ephesians 3:14-20). Once you know you are in covenant with Almighty God, it gives you confidence and boldness because God is your covenant Partner. The scar of circumcision of the heart, the spirit, is real. It is as real as the scars in Jesus’ hands. The devil can see the cut across your spirit being. Demand him to take his hands off you, and he must obey you. We can only come to many sided victories that Jesus died to give us when we become covenant minded. Covenant faith is developed by believing God’s WORD. His words bind Him. They which are of faith are the children of Abraham. God remembers His covenant for “a thousand generations.” (Deut.7:9; 1 Chron. 16:15; Ps.105:8)

Anyone who has no covenant with God has no covenant rights. Josh.6:8-10

Joshua could now speak boldly and command the people. He was walking in his covenant right. A “gentile” is someone who does not know God, who is uncircumcised and without a covenant with God (Ephesians 2:11-12). Before you were born again, you were a gentile, you were without Christ, being an alien from the commonwealth of Israel and a stranger from the covenants of promise having no hope and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:12). But now in Christ Jesus you have been brought near by the blood [of Jesus] (Ephesians 2:13). It is easy to enter into covenant with God. Like the Apostle Paul, just call out, “LORD!” (Acts 9:5) How did young David kill the giant, Goliath? It was through the covenant. Jericho had no covenant to protect them against destruction only Rehab was wise and made a covenant- the symbol of which was scarlet thread. (colour of blood). Goliath had no covenant with God to protect him and give him strength (1 Samuel 17:26). David had faith in God’s covenant. He was fully persuaded God would give him the victory. You must be persuaded that God cannot lie. He does not change, and He cannot fail.

Faith is a spiritual force, not a mental force. Spiritual forces are the most powerful forces on earth. God is a spirit. You are a spirit being in the likeness of God. When you were born again, you were made alive in your spirit. Have faith in God. Who is God? He is the God of the covenant.

The primary purpose of words is to release power, not to communicate. That is why the devil tries to get you talking death. That is why the devil is trying to get everyone to wear face masks and close our mouths!!!! And this is our season to force the future with our words!

NOW LET US PRACTICE THE WORD AND MAKE IT PERSONAL. (read through  the following power packed faith words and choose only 10 that apply to you and situation around you.)

  1. I speak to every mountain (Every high thing, Government, Jericho, obstacle -Name them) in my life and command it to be removed and cast into the sea (Mark 11:23).
  2. I speak to every financial mountain to be removed from my life in the name of Jesus.
  3. Let every evil mountain hear the voice of the Lord and be removed (Mic. 6:2).
  4. I prophesy to the mountains and command them to hear the Word of the Lord and be removed (Ezek. 36:4).
  5. Put forth Your hand, O Lord, and overturn the mountains by the roots (Job 28:9).
  6. I speak to every mountain of debt to be removed and cast into the sea. Lord, You are against every destroying mountain (Jer. 51:25).
  7. Let the mountains melt at Your presence, O God (Judg. 5:5, KJV).
  8. Make waste the evil mountains in my life, O Lord (Isa. 42:15).
  9. I thresh every mountain, I beat them small, and I make the hills as chaff (Isa. 41:15).
  10. Every mountain in my way will become a plain (Zech. 4:7).
  11. By faith I will sojourn in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, as I am an heir of the same promise (Heb. 11:9).
  12. I will forsake any bondage that seeks to entrap me, looking forward by faith and setting my eyes on Him who is invisible (Heb. 11:27).
  13. I decree and declare that by faith I will walk through my trials on dry ground, and my enemies will be drowned (Heb. 11:29).
  14. I will encircle the immovable walls in my life, and by my faith those walls will fall down (Heb. 11:30).
  15. Like Rahab, I will receive the men of God with peace. I will not perish with those who do not believe (Heb. 11:31).
  16. I will subdue kingdoms, rain down righteousness, obtain promises, and stop the mouths of lions because of my faith (Heb. 11:33).
  17. I declare that I will not only receive a good testimony of faithfulness, but I will also receive all that God has promised (Heb. 11:39-40).
  18. I am established and anointed by God (2 Cor. 1:21).
  19. I activate my mustard seed of faith and say to this mountain of sickness and disease in my life, “Be removed and go to another place.” Nothing will be impossible to me (Matt. 17:20).
  20. Because You have anointed me, I have faith and do not doubt that I can speak to any illness, curse it at the root, and cause it to dry up and die, just as You did to the fig tree. I also know that if I tell this mountain of sickness that is in my way to move and be cast into the sea, it shall be done (Matt. 21:21).
  21. I declare that I have uncommon, great faith in the power of Jesus Christ, faith that cannot be found anywhere else (Matt. 8:10).
